Hard to Say

I’m starin’ at the wall,  wonderin, “How’d I end up here,
Alone with all my thoughts and too much quiet time to spare?”

I miss the carefree days and I wanna go on back
To all those late-night diner haunts and to smokin’ reds along the tracks.

We carried on like wide-eyed fools, auspicious friends in the throes of youth.
We dared to oppose the rules, our eager minds in search of truth.
But somewhere along the road, we grew up fast and lost our way.

Now what comes next, it’s hard to say...

And so I’ve come to find that so few good things ever last.
It was a different place in time, and I can’t reinvent the past.

But I’ll always have these memories of hitchin’ rides on midnight trains.
And I’ll still keep on remembering sneakin’ home in the morning rain.

We carried on like stubborn fools, determined friends in the throes of youth.
We dared to oppose the rules, and take any risk to seek the truth.
But somewhere along the road, we grew up fast and lost our way.

And what comes next, it’s hard to say...

Only Memories Remain

The hour hand strikes midnight beneath this chilly New Year's sky,
And I can't shake the feeling that it's just another year gone by.
When I came to California, I had all my dreams upon my back,
But this anxious city livin' has got me longing for the past.

I yearn for quiet streams and birchwood trees, and fields of wild flowers;
Secluded glens near the water's edge where Shakespeare passed the hours by.

But all that seems like a long-lost, faded dream...

Oh, oh, oh...
Oh, oh, oh...

My childhood is lost now along some backwoods country road,
And my innocence lay buried beneath the cold New England snow.
And there ain't no use in wonderin' about the way things might have been.
It's like tryna' light a candle in a winter wind.

I'm holding on and I'm never letting go...

Oh, oh, oh...
Oh, oh, oh...

And someday I'll go back there to fill this void within my soul,
And listen hard to hear the echo of the child I'd once known.
But the one thing I am sure of is that names and faces will have changed,
For when the hour glass runs empty, only memories remain.

Yes when the hour glass runs empty, only memories remain...

Lady of the Moon

The day is almost gone and still the city rushes on
Through the window of this dimly-lit cafe.
And as the night is falling, I see you walkin' by.
Your beauty takes my breath away.

That sweet familiar face, I just can't help but gaze
At the way the streetlights illuminate your eyes.
Now I wanna know your name, and catch the late-night train.
Hand in hand, I wanna run away with you.

My Lady of the Moon, I see you when the stars are out,
When shadows fall around this town.
My Lady of the Moon, so wonderfully mysterious,
Like a ruby jewel in a diamond sea.

A kiss as sweet as wine, and a touch that freezes time.
These thoughts and feelings, they resonate inside.
And apprehensions slowly fade, as I gather all my strength.
Hand in hand, let's steal the night away.

My Lady of the Moon, I see you when the stars are out,
When shadows fall around this town.
My Lady of the Moon, so wonderfully mysterious,
Like a ruby jewel in a diamond sea.

I'm steppin' out beneath the sky as you turn around and catch my eye.
There's a bit of hidden mischief tucked behind your eyes.
Underneath the veil of beauty, timid words are cast aside.
Face to face, our hearts collide.

My Lady of the Moon, I feel the stars surrounding us,
As shadows fall around this town.
My Lady of the Moon, so wonderfully mysterious,
Like a ruby jewel in a diamond sea.

And now the steam is rising up like embers from your coffee cup,
As unbridled conversation flows so naturally.
Tangled up in new-found love, our timid words are cast aside.
Face to face, our hearts collide...

Living, Breathing Dream...

The day breaks, and everything’s so peaceful here,
As the rain falls tingling down on the windowpane.

You wake and say, “Good morning,” in a voice as soft as spring.
And your eyes are so alluring.
You are a living, breathing dream…

And it’s oh so quiet, sipping coffee beside the fire.
In this silence, I feel happy just to be with you.

The air outside is chilly, but your touch is warm as spring.
And your tender lips, they thrill me.
You are a living, breathing dream…

Now the night falls, and shadows dance on your velvet skin,
As the flames fade, and the embers burn so soft and low.

Your heart reflects the changing seasons,
Like a gift each new day brings.
This is a love I can believe in.
You are a living, breathing dream...

Kissing Wind

Remembering back in time to a place of sweet release,
Where the palm trees swayed in time with the soothing, summer breeze.
The sun was setting low above the soft Tahitian sands,
As the sounds of a steel drum band filled the evening air.

Softly you strolled on by, and the world stood still when your eyes met mine.
Your smile was like a sunny day, and all my cares simply drifted away…

The days and nights seemed one, and I lost all sense of time,
Falling in love with you underneath those perfect skies.
The midnight moonlight shined, and captured our silhouettes
Moving like ocean waves in ways I will never forget…

The stars whispered words so fair as sweet nothings danced on the perfumed air.
We were free in that summer of lust, until the seasons changed like a sign from above…

And we knew that it would never last, that once we left that place,
We could never go back.
Our romance was just a passing phase, just a moment of blue in a world of grey.
But even now, after all of this time, after all of the years that have passed on by,
I still remember you, and the touch of your silken skin, like a dream carried down
on the kissing wind...

Last Goodbye

Down the road I go.
A soul without a home.
It's not the life I'd hoped for, this running from myself.
But dreams can fade so fast.

The days roll by unchanged in this northern California haze.
I'm chasing down a memory, but it's fading day by day
In a world that's out of reach...

Time marches on,
But I stand still like stone.
I hide behind my eyes,
And my tears have all run dry.

It's all about a girl,
The one with the Autumn eyes and the deep red curls.
But she went away and left me on that blank September day,
A last goodbye in a cold, hard rain.

Now her shawl still hugs the chair,
And her voice still haunts the air.
But I left that place behind me, shut the lights and closed the door.
Where I go from here, only heaven knows...

Time moves along,
On wings that fear the sun.
I try so hard to let it be,
But I tumble down into the sea.

Now on certain nights when the moon hangs low,
And the great northern woods are filled with snow,
I can swear I see her ghost moving slow amongst the trees;
Or is it just my heart playing wicked tricks on me?

Time marches on,
Like a watchful, ancient soldier made of clay.
And each night before I close my eyes,
I'd give up life for just one last goodbye...

Past Regrets

The summer season ends, and autumn now begins again.
But nothing seems to change, this place it still remains the same.

And it’s only you, my dear, that’s kept me here after all this time.
But I simply can’t hold on, and come the break of day, I’ll be gone.

We wake without a sound, and it’s time I leave this town behind.
I’ve offered you the chance, but you’re simply just too scared to let it go.

And the words inside our heads are better left unsaid, though we won’t soon forget
That the road up ahead will be littered with the bones of all our past regrets.

Goodbye...Goodbye...Goodbye...Goodbye...

Goodbye...Goodbye...Goodbye...Goodbye...

Comin' Home to You

Travelin' down on Highway 95.
The sun is shinin' bright across the borderline.
Just me and the road and the tall New England pines,
and a few more miles to go to that old familiar sign.

Love is waiting around the bend.
I'm comin' home to you.
Fate has lead me back again,
To a heart that's beating true.
'Been driftin' far away for far too long,
Now I'm comin' home to you.

From the windy city and on down to Carolina.
From the California sun to the wild Montana skies.
So many places and faces I have seen,
But nothing quite compares to that smile, so sweet and fair.

Now love is waiting around the bend.
I'm comin' home to you.
Fate has lead me back again,
To a heart that's beating true.
'Been driftin' far away for far too long,
Now I'm comin' home to you.

Passions stir and I must heed the distant call.
But you're the light that guides me safely through it all.

This journey's finally reached its' end.
I'm comin' home to you.
Fate has lead me back again,
To a heart that's beating true.
I've drifted far away for far too long,
Now I'm comin' home to you.

Love on the Run

The dawn is slowly breakin’ out on the edge of town.
The engine’s hummin’ soft and low, we got the window’s down.
There’s nothing between us now but just the sky and the open road.
With your hand in mine, we shift into gear, and away we go…

So hold on tight now, baby,
We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re chasin’ the moonlight straight to the sun,

We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re seeking love on the run.

That town was built on shattered lives and broken dreams.
The air so thick with heartbreak, it made it hard to breathe.
But just feel the wind blow free, and let the highway cleanse the soul.
With your hand in mine, we ain’t lookin’ back, and away we go…

So hold on tight now, baby,
We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re chasin’ the moonlight straight to the sun,

We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re seeking love on the run.

What lies ahead is the dream of something more.
And the road will rise to meet us to show us what's in store.

Just hold on tight now, baby,
We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re chasin’ the moonlight straight to the sun,

We’re seeking love on the run.

Yeah hold on tight now, baby,
We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re chasin’ the moonlight straight to the sun,

We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re seeking love on the run.
We’re seeking love on the run.

Falling Into You

Another day is softly waking
Beneath the sweet, Caribbean skies.
Another chance to glimpse perfection
In those midnight curls and deep brown eyes.

Under the sun, the ocean is blue, and the sky is so high,
And I cannot stop falling into you.
The ocean is blue and the sky is so high,
And I cannot stop falling into you.

The hours ebb and flow like water
In this sultry, summertime affair.
The days are hot and the nights are wonderful,
And the scent of love is on the air.

And under the sun, the ocean is blue, and the sky is so high,
And I cannot stop falling into you.
The ocean is blue and the sky is so high,
And I cannot stop falling into you.

Under the sun, the ocean is blue, and the sky is so high,
And I cannot stop falling into you.
The ocean is blue and the sky is so high,
And I cannot stop falling into…

You are everything I see.
I can feel you all around me,
Just like the moonlight on the sea.
I’ve searched to find a love so true,
And I never wanna stop,
No I just can’t stop falling into you.

Train of Change

I’m watchin’ the world go spinnin’ around the sun,
As one by one the people scurry by.
Vanity shines far behind their vacant eyes.

Nobody cares about tomorrow’s worried gaze,
And through the haze, the future’s calling out in pain.
We’re trying to fly, but no one’s lookin’ towards the sky.

And down the road, our children’s voices slowly fade away.

They’ve up and gone, they’ve moved along,
And caught a one way ride upon a train of change.

Ignoring the rules, we’ve made such a mess of things.
What nature brings, we light it up in flames.
How will it change if no one’s willing to take the blame?

It’s all for one, but sure as hell ain’t one for all.
When someone falls, folks just pass em’ right on by.
There’s too many tears, and so little love for us to share.

And down the road, our children’s voices slowly fade away.
They’ve up and gone, they’ve moved along,
And caught a one way ride upon a train of change.

And down the road, our children’s children slowly fade away.
They’ve up and gone, they’ve moved along,
And bought a one-way ticket upon a train of change.

I’m gonna hitch a ride upon that change of change.

Ghosts of Humboldt County

Another season’s slowly fading.
I can feel the changes in the wind.
The Indian summertime is ending,
And the fog is swiftly moving in.

I’m drivin’ up from San Francisco,
Grey colored skies along the way.
I keep my eyes and ears wide open,
Seeking signs of yesterday.

And these winding roads have a tale to tell as the miles unfold…

My mind is lost in a great divide.
I feel a yearning deep inside,
In search of secret tales of the ghosts of Humboldt County.

There’s a hidden whisper upon the breeze,
In the ancient souls of redwood trees.
They’re reaching out to me, these ghosts of Humboldt County.

A rebel spirit still remains here.
Those timeless poets still exist.
Their songs come rolling down the mountains.
Their voices drift within the mist.

And I’ve have given anything to have been there,
When millions’ answered the epic call.
Their words of peace are not forgotten;
They echo loudly when raindrops fall.

And the years have flown by, but the lessons learned will never die…

My mind is lost in a great divide.
I feel a yearning deep inside,
In search of secret tales of the ghosts of Humboldt County.

There’s a hidden whisper upon the breeze,
In the ancient souls of redwood trees.
They’re reaching out to me, these ghosts of Humboldt County.

And I wish that I could capture all these moments,
And hold them up for everyone to see.
Maybe then we’d arrive at an understanding
That a peaceful revolution is what we need.

But changes never come so easy
In a world that’s moving way too fast.
How can we build a new tomorrow
If we don’t reflect upon the past?

And time draws the line between the empty hearts and the one’s that shine…

My mind is lost in a great divide.
It’s like I’m waking up inside,
In search of secret tales of the ghosts of Humboldt County.

There’s a hidden whisper upon the breeze,
In the ancient souls of redwood trees.
They’re reaching out to me, these ghosts of Humboldt County.
